What is creativity?

Creativity is expressing your ideas in an interesting or appealing way.  Creative thought can be displayed through writings, artwork, performances, etc.  It is a very important part of life because it adds your own personalization to your work.  Creativity is also what keeps things fresh and interesting. For example, an audience wouldn't want to hear a comedian tell the same jokes all the time because it would be boring, they crave creativity!  Creativity also encourages critical thinking due to striving for originality. Overall, creativity is a part of society we just cannot afford to lose or take for granted.
A great example of creativity of the 20th century was the guitarist Jimi Hendrix.  Hendrix had a really radical style of creativity during his time period by mixing up music sound, dress, and music theme.  His musical sound had a rough, electrical sound, as well as incorporating quick, nimble guitar solos.  This was a fairly new and unusual style from much past music.  Also, his dress reflected and influenced the radical dress of the 60's and represented Jimi's own creative styles.  Lastly, the themes in his music about politics and society were yet another example of his radical creativity.

  1. Jordan,

Didn't know you were a Hendrix fan. Rock on.

Good points about creativity and its relationship to critical thinking. I think that might be the most important thing about creativity.

Be careful not to confuse individuality or identity with creativity. Expressing yourself in a way that seems different from others doesn't necessarily mean you are a critical (creative) thinker... your actions and abilities demonstrate that.

    Good start.
